Attention MOVIE NERDS!!!!

I need your help. My sister and I are going CRAZY (not a far stretch for us...) trying to remember what movie this scene is from:

A black man is found innocent in a trial for something- we can't remember. He's escorted out to his car and gets in. His wife is looking thru the car window at him. A white lady comes up and knocks on the other car window. We think she was the mom of a kid that was killed or something. The black man looks a little nervous as he rolls down the window. The lady says something like, "I just want to apologize..." then she raises a gun up that is hidden under a hanky and shoots the man in the head. His blood splatters on the opposite window his wife was looking thru and you see her shocked face. The lady that shot him like falls back and yells a name like "Ritchie!!" We think it was her son's name. Or her husband's name. Whoever she thinks the black man had hurt or killed or whatever.

Ok- my sister and I are dorks. We admit it. We've tried googling this but how the heck do you google something like this. "White lady shoots innocent black man." "Lady shoots man with gun under hanky." "Ritchie!!" All of these phrases brought up porn sites. So, if you can help us out we'd really appreciate it. (Come on Jenny. You're our only hope...)

Sounds oh so familiar, but I am no help. Good luck. I know how this sort of thing bugs until it's resolved...

I'm sure I would remember seeing that. It doesn't even sound familiar, though. Sorry!

Are you sure it wasn't Mississippi Burning or Ghosts of Mississippi? I keep thinking it was one of those.

Ghosts of Mississippi Medgar Evers gets shot in his driveway. Whoopi Goldberg is his wife. James Wood is Delay Beckwith and gets convicted later for it. I remember that movie. Miss. Burning I don't remember as well, but it's about 3 civil rights activist that are murdered. Hackman and Willem Dafoe come to investigate...

Ghosts of Mississippi was the first thought that I had, but then I remembered that James Woods is all icky-gross old in that one, so he didn't get shot, right? Wait - but he's not black, either.

If the name she screams is Richie, maybe it's LaBamba.

Hi, it's Scott Weinberg, nerdly film critic and a friend of a friend.

Flick's Frank LaLoggia's The Lady in White.

Good little thriller it is.

THANK YOU SCOTT WEINBERG!!! I had actually text messaged my sister "Is it Lady in White?" the nite after I posted this plea for help. I never heard back from her and I figured that meant I was wrong. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CONFIRMING!! I can now rest easy. THANKS AGAIN!!

Tori, you have no idea what Scott went through. He had on the line at one time: One famous film festival director, 5 nationally renown critics, two of whom were on location covering other film festivals.

ALL of them remembered the scene, remembered something about the movie, but no one could remember what it was exactly (so consider yourself in good company :)

It took a few hours of work from all those professionals scattered all over the country to get your confirmation.

Not bad for a friend of a friend :)

Special thanks to Scott who took that ball and ran with it (although he cursed me for saddling him with this dilemma.)

Thanx so much!! I was seriously driving myself insane trying to figure it out. Even when I tried not to think about it, I found myself thinking about it!! :)
