The Bird and the Bees

Or actually- the wasps. Today was just a normal day. Every freakin' kid in the neighborhood was at our house starting at 10am sharp. (I've threatened kids in the past that have dared to show up at our front door anytime before 10am.) For some reason our house is the "cool" place to play. We have kids from all over on our trampoline, in our kiddie pools and on our swing set. And that is where it happened. The swing set. Taj and an 8 yr old neighbor girl were swinging on the 2 seater swing and were both attacked by wasps. Taj lucked out and was only stung once on the wrist. Sarah wasn't as "lucky" and was stung 3 times. Taj didn't cry long and once I finished giving him Benadryl and offering him a popsicle he was saying, "I fine Mom. I fine." He's an old pro considering he was stung 3 times while we were at the park with Robin a while back. Her son was stung 4 times I believe. Anyway... Being the adult, I thought I should save everyone and go spray the set for wasps. I walked over to the swings and was looking for a nest when I was attacked. I was immediately stung on my left calf and then 4 or 5 other wasps swarmed at me. I dropped the wasp killer and ran off. I probably looked totally funny to the neighbors. I'm glad my husband wasn't home to see because I always make fun of him for running from or punching at wasps. I had to borrow wasp killer from the neighbor since I'd dropped my can by the wasps. Anyway- apparently I'm more sensitive to wasp stings than Taj. My sting actually bled a little and my leg is so freakin' sore. There is a huge red circle around the sting probably a 3 inches in diameter. I didn't cry. I didn't scream- because I'm tough like that. But FREAK! It hurts!! As it turns out the nest was actually under the double swing. That's why I couldn't see it right off. Sei knocked it off tonite and was stung on his arm in the process. Those were mean wasps!! They deserved the death penalty.

Definitely the death penalty... Sorry 3 in your family were stung! That sucks! We have wasp nests in the eaves/gutter areas of our house... I am glad I haven't been hurt yet. Only the cat has gotten stung so far, but she asked for it.

Heck ya they asked for it! You don't mess with Mom!

I think they're trying to overtake the neighborhood. They've been building nests on our trash cans. On the handles. We have 4 cans (black, green, 2 blue), and the beginnings of nests are on there every morning. I enjoy spraying them, though...in a mean sort of way, just like this guy likes to kill the hornets.

Ugh! I remember that Sarah's swing set used to be the Wasp Ritz...until Brent would realize where they were hiding. Alli talks about Sarah quite often. They are such good people. Anyhow, I'm sorry you got stung. :(
