Christmas Meme

I was tagged by Suzanne for a very festive Christmas meme. Thanks Suzanne! I hereby tag Stacy, Robin and Tara.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Helloooo!! Chocolate-ANYTHING beats everything else.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Sits them under the tree, around the living room, in the stockings....

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White because that's what came on the tree when we bought it.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, but I should. Maybe I'd get some lip. (Hubby hasn't been home much!)

5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually the 1st week of December. I put them up a little early this year because my kids were out of town and I was bored.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Southern Candied Yams and cornbread stuffing- but only with my mom's recipe. No dry junk!! And it must be made with Morrison's Corn Kits from my hometown for the cornbread mix. (You can get it at Wally World.)

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: I remember my dad bought my mom a really nice ring with a bunch of diamonds. He hid it and then sent her on a scanvanger hunt all around the house. The final clue led her right back to the Christmas tree where it was hiding under the tree skirt. My sisters and I were so excited helping Dad make clues and hide them. My mom cried when she found the ring. Good times... I also remember acting out the Christmas story and we were short a few "shepherds" so I used a huge, stuffed duck dressed as a surfer. It was rad.

8. How and When did you learn the truth about Santa? I think I was 8 and I think it was Easter because I picture myself sitting the kitchen while my mom made the traditional bunny shaped pancakes. My mom just told me out of no where. I was totally shocked and cried and cried and cried. I think that's why I was so scared to tell my boys!! They handled it a lot better than I did.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open all our gifts on Christmas Eve. Then Christmas morning we play with our Santa gifts. I think this started because my dad's side of the family did everything Christmas Eve and then we had Christmas Day with my mom's side. We still do it this way in my own family - unless it doesn't work with Sei's work schedule.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Right now we just have a 4.5 foot artificial tree. I decorate it with hand-me-down ornaments, ornaments I made as a child, ornaments my kiddos have made and ornaments we've received as gifts. I love it! Next year we will get a big tree- I was scared Livie would choke on something this year, so our little tree is up on a table.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? It's pretty, but my house and car get trashed. Plus, it takes longer to get the kids in their snow clothes than the total amount of time they stay outside playing.

12. Can you ice skate? No- but I can longboard- kinda. ;) I've only gone ice skating once and I never let go of my friend. I want to try it again though.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? My homemade Cabbage Patch Kid and homemade Care Bear. "Sally" and "Grumpy." I think I got them around 1985-ish. My mom accidently gave them away to Goodwill. :( I also love the painting "While Emma Sleeps" by Liz Lemon Swindle that my sister, Tara, gave me in 2000.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Celebrating Christ's birth, being together with my family, eating all that grub!!!

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
I actually kinda get sick of dessert and I don't really have a fave. I do love to eat the Reese's PB cups Santa brings the kids!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Growing up we always acted out the Christmas story. Mom would read out of the bible and the kids would act it out. My mom would always get irritated because we'd start goofing around. My kiddos acted it out while I read and I was getting irritated because SEIULI kept goofin' around. What a nerd!

17. What tops your tree? A crocheted angel. I'd like to buy something new some year, but I don't really care about decorations. It's not my thing and I'm too cheap.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Giving. For real. It's fun to watch everyone get excited. And I usually buy my own gifts anyway (so I make sure to get what I want...)

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? "The Shepherd" "Joseph" and "I Cannot Find my Way/Three Kings" all from The Forgotten Carols.
AND....

"Frosty the Snowman" because it reminds me of my little brother. I also used to make up dances to "Carol of the Bells" performed by Mannheim Steamroller.

20. What is your favorite Christmas story? Other than the birth of Christ? The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean. Love the music. Love the story.

I had fun reading your Meme!

I remember my Cabbage Patch kid and Care Bear too! They're stored away in a box somewhere, but I still have them. I did forget to take my Barbies when I got married and let's just say that they no longer had heads (courtesy of my little brothers) when I returned for them.

LOL at the surfing duck dressed up as a shepherd! What a Kodak moment! :)

Carol of the bells, yes!
I love "While Emma Sleeps".
Longboard skating, cool, it looks...long.

You have a fun holiday tradition :)
I like it, I don't think I could get my kids to do it though - too old and teenagery.

I did your Meme on my blog... even though you didn't tag me... it was fun... for some reason I've gotten all excited about Christmas as of late!(I usually do... but this is the first year my kiddos are really old enough to get excited about it too... I just made a paper chain with my 4 year old counting down the days, she's so excited!) Thanks for the prompt...
