Why? What do I do that for??

How I ask the kids for the reason they did something: "Why did you do that??"

How Sei asks the kids for a reason they did something: "What'd you do that for??"

I always laugh when he says that. I think it sounds funny. He thinks I sound funny. Hmmm...

Anyway, I started my blog last March because Gina invited me to view hers and to start my own. Thank you Gina. Recently a few people have questioned why I blog. So, I asked myself "Tori :), why do you blog??" And here's what I came up with:

~ It is truly an outlet for me. As a mother I tend to lose myself in my family. Blogging is something I do for me. (And all my loyal readers.:) It's my hobby. I can't go surfing or snowboarding or shopping whenever I want to. But I can find a spare minute or 2 and blog if I want. Some people knit. I blog.

~ It's a diary. I suck at writing in a journal. I haven't had a diary since 9th grade when I would chronicle my sneaking out expeditions. My blog is as close to journaling as I get. True, sometimes I write about silly things like what my elf name is, but other times I record things that I want to remember. I was reading thru my blog the other day looking for a specific story when I came upon this post. I had totally forgotten about Alec's sweet reaction to the news about Santa!! I'm so glad I blogged it! I'm working on getting my blog put into a book.

~ Blogging makes me notice things in the world I wouldn't have noticed before. I bring my camera with me everywhere now! The video of Sei and Taj is so beautiful to me. But to be honest, if I didn't have a blog I probably wouldn't have thought to grab the camera!

~ I've met some great people and kept in touch with others who have moved away. My blog makes it possible for others who care to see what's going on in my life. I've made contact with people I would love to meet in real life. And I am a true believer in matches made online. ;)

~ I've learned some things on the computer that I never would have learned before. I've gotten to where I can post a pretty cool looking post in like 5 minutes flat. Posting pictures or videos is a snap! I also have learned that I really enjoy putting together little video clips. That's fun to me. And it has come in handy. In case you've missed some of my videos, click here, here, here and here to show a few. :)

So, anyway. Those are a few of the reasons I blog. How 'bout you? What made you decide to start a blog? Why do you continue to blog?

I blog for many of the reasons you do---an outlet, a journal, and a place for me to put things into perspective. I also feel like writing is something I can do for me, with the added bonus that someday my kids will be able to look back and get a chance to know me as I am right now. I love that I have things chronicled that I would have forgotten. It's just good for my soul.

I blog for a journal too. I'd like to put mine in a book, I've heard about it but haven't done much about it. Let me know how it goes.

I'm way more aware of things too. Like I probably never would have journaled about a dog eating poop. But, yes I did put it in my blog. Along with other things like cute stuff the kids say, gifts from DH etc.

Tori,
I read the blog on telling Tristan about the falsehoods that we as parents perpetuate. I laughed when you said that you let Tristan believe in Santa et al. through the 4th grade! Are you sitting down? Of course you are- silly me. Steve was in 8th grade and was truly shocked and called us liars when we told him! Dang- we are good. My girls still don't know that they don't exist. They just know that we fired the Easter Bunny for being too expensive and that we draw names and be each others E.B.

Sorry for the long post;-)

I do it for similar reasons. My main motivation is to keep the grandparents in the know.

I have made so many wonderful friends and have managed to stay a sane person because of blogging. I have learned many skills that you've mentioned also. I especially love learning from other bloggers experiences and their education.

I heart blogging! And I can't wait to meet up with you and Suzanne in a week!

I first started doing it to k.i.t. w/you. It's easy to get out of the habit though. It's been over four months since I've updated mine. Maybe one day.....

I blog to stay sane. It's one of my few creative outlets.

And I also really stink at keeping at a journal, but this I can do!

I love your blog, personally it is one of my favorites to read. It is so entertaining and I love hearing about your family. You are such a great mom! I hope I can be like you someday...you are awesome!

I blog because it is my journal, via the internet. It is much easier for me to type up memories really quick than it is to sit down and write it down (I get a sore hand! haha).

I love staying in touch with people and I love meeting new people! I love blogging, it is amazing!

-Love, Lauren

I started for pretty much the same reasons you did.

I loved your "how you met story". That is such a sweet story. We made everyone mad when we got married too. Maybe someday I'll share that story.

I blog so I don't feel alone in my strangeness.

P.S. "Why did you do that?" is grammatically correct. Sei's isn't. ;)

For me is an outlet for all the goofy thoughts I have, ot the goofy things I see.

It has turned into so much more: a place where i have met great friends, where I ahve learned lots of cool computery tricks, where I can write about nothing and everything.
