Updates on my chaos: EDITED TO ADD VIDEO

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support (and offerings to kick some butt). I did finally get to talk to my kiddos after 5 long days!! Tristan said he had forgotten to turn on his cell phone. (Dork) When I asked, "Well, didn't you get the messages I left for you at the house?" He said, "What messages?" Exactly. I keep telling myself "11 more days and they are home." They are all ready to come home. The 4 week mark is usually the time when they are asking me "How much longer do we have to stay here?" They are there for 6 weeks every summer. They don't have any step-siblings in Texas or anything, so it's just kinda lame. And that is basically the only time they see him, which makes it kinda weird to begin with.

This weekend we finally got the majority of our yard done. For those of you who don't know- when we bought this house it was trashed. And that's being nice. We had to have it professionally cleaned, new carpet, wood flooring, and paint before we could even move in. And the yard. Oh, that poor yard. It looked like hay lying ontop of dirt. Not only that, but there was a huge drainage ditch that was no longer used, behind our fence. But that property was ours. So, we took down the fence and had trees removed, dug out crap people had thrown in (and there was a lot of it!) and had it filled with dirt. It added about 700 square feet to our backyard. But we've had dirt for our yard for months now. It's sucked. But not anymore. WOO HOO! Sei has been working his cute butt off for the last 2 weeks building retaining walls, helping put in the sprinkler system and leveling out areas. He rocks. And yesterday some men from the neighborhood came to help lay sod. Hallelujah! What a transformation! It's amazing. There are still some areas to finish- like the side and an area we had leveled and cleared so we can have a basketball court. But holy cow- WE HAVE A BACKYARD!!! I made this montage of the transformation. It's crazy.

I'm sorry if I made it sound like I'm a "Comment Nazi." I'm not. I don't expect everyone to comment all the time. I don't comment on every post I read, but if I stop by a blog I try to say "Hi." And for the record, I don't sit there and read my site meter and try to track people, etc... I'm not a psycho. So, no worries if you've been a lurker. I'm not gonna track ya down. But I do like to make new blog friends, so say HELLO occasionally.

Also, GOOD MAIL- I believe the original good mail list set up by Annie was stopped at 50 people. If there are people interested in starting a new good mail list that didn't make it on the original list email me! I'd be happy to organize it. And if you're on the original list but would like to expand to the new one, well, we can do that too. :)

Have a super day!!

Glad you talked to the kids, glad you got your yard and glad you are wanting to organize good mail. I decided good mail is just inspiration for me. I don't want to be organized with a deadline etc, so I am going to just send it to folks that I have gotten to know and already have their addresses. So WATCH OUT!

I see grass. I see a cool playground! Sei rocks!
And you too of course.

Totally OT: You know that movie the "1st wives club"? (I watched it before I got married), guess what: Stupidest movie ever. And that's all I'm going to say, because it's Sunday.

HOORAY for the new backyard and all your hard work! It looks great! :)

I like the new backyard. If I were still in UT I'd send the girls over ;) and let them enjoy your families hard work!

Out here in VA all we have is a yard of weeds that I mow. Sod isn't a concept they have heard of out here.

Wow! That looks great! Is Sei available for hire?? hehe

Will the big kids be completely surprised when they get home?

That is an awesome transformation! I love the terraced look and the play area and basketball court. The big kids are going to love it!

Wait a second, your kids are in Texas? I can TOTALLY make good on some butt kicking, I'm already here! :)

I don't think you are a comment Nazi, even though I am/was a lurker. I thought it was funny how your post made me, just Nobody, freeze in my tracks because I COULD have been the crazy lurker. I get very nervous when people find me by weird google searches and then stay for a while. I much prefer the perverted google searches and the immediate outclicks when they realize that poopy diapers and 1 year old toilet swimming is as perverted as it gets.

I was wondering when someone from
Texas was going to speak up and kick some A** for you!

For some reason, my email wouldn't send, but I'd love to get in on this good mail thing.

I'll expand, I am great at expanding :o)
I get a lot of lurkers too... I don't sit and monitor the site meter thingy either, but when there are thousands of visitors per week and a fraction of comments... I like a hello too and enjoy all your visits btw.
Your yard looks super awesome, good job Sei.
Happy Monday Tori.

I'm glad you finally heard from the kids! I couldn't imagine them being gone that long, let alone not being able to talk to them!

Thank goodness it's only a few weeks a year, and they'll be home to you soon to enjoy a fantastic new yard!

Wow! That video is amazing. I mean, not the video so much as the work you guys have done! That's sooooo awesome, Tori! Your house is adorable and your yard is looking cozy and comfortable! I love having a nice yard. Mine is covered in weeds! But at least the weeds are green, it gives the illusion of pretty, green grass.

Austin didn't get to fly yesterday, more Delta problems. But he's flying in today! Woo-hoo! I'm getting ready to leave to get him in 30 minutes! Yayyy! That was totally random, but thought I'd share since you can relate to what I'm going through with visitations with Dad. :-)

YAY for cool yards! It is such hard work!

I get lurkers too... some I've noticed stay for a loooooong time and some come back every day at the same time!?!? crazy.

I'd do the new good mail list as well. Fun.

I'm so jealous of your backyard! When we were picking out our options w/our house, it included sod in the front yard & on the sides. It was stupid-expensive to sod the backyard, so we figured we'd do it ourselves. (Mental note - over 30 years, stupid-expensive would not have been that noticeable!) Well, we haven't gotten around to the sod ($$). Micah did plant seed, which helps, but by no means is the same. AND ~ we still have to take the dogs out in the front yard on leashes, or they would come back in the house caked in mud. And that's IF they were even able to find their way out of the swamp after all this TX rain.
So anyway....YAY for y'all!!!!

What a huge relief for you to get your backyard in.

Now is my time to repent: I check in, but don't always comment. I am sorry. And I think the other day I was reading your blog and then stepped away from my computer...so maybe it looked like I had been there for a super-long time without saying anything??? Any way, I hope no feelings were hurt.

I tried to phone you just now, but the number in the phone book is out of order. email me??

I'll be eagerly anticipating your write up in Utah Home and Garden magazine!

Our backyard has waist high weeds at the moment because it's rained every day for 3 weeks. We also have a 'Poop Graveyard,' courtesy of Chocolate Lab. Your new backyard is fancy and all but I bet it doesn't have a poop graveyard, does it? I got something you don't have. I got something you don't have.
