I got rocked

This was me after the concert on Friday (:02):

Last year we got stuck in traffic and missed the 1st 20 minutes of Journey's performance. We weren't gonna let that happen again. Gates opened at 5:30 and we were there by 6pm. We also learned that our way far out parking spot from last year meant, yes, a small hike into the concert, but a VERY quick exit to get home. So, we parked "way out" again. We were out of the parking lot in like 2 minutes. Nice. I was home by a little after midnite. (Which is a good thing since Taj's birthday party was in the morning!)

Getting there early meant we had a chance to check out the merchandise minus the long lines. I bought a Def Leppard do-rag. I opted not to buy one the more expensive tees because I knew from last year there would be vendors during and after the show with the $20 concert tees. I'm glad I chose to wait because... I was right. And everyone knows how I like to be right. :)

I'm not a huge Foreigner or Styx fan. I was there to see Def Leppard. But those 2 bands really did an awesome job and sounded rad live. I was surprised to find out I knew as many songs as I did and disappointed Styx didn't sing "Mr. Roboto." (I figured they wouldn't since my little brother had seen them once or twice & they hadn't then either, but I still hoped...) The keyboard player/singer of Styx (Lawrence Gowan) was freakin' entertaining!! But by the end of their set I was sooooo ready for Def Leppard!!!

And then.... I heard the most beautiful words: "Do you wanna get rocked???" Hell yeah! That's how the concert started last year too. Except last year they actually sang "Let's Get Rocked" for their opening song. This year they sang "Rocket." They sang a couple songs that I wasn't real familiar with & even though I couldn't really sing along that didn't stop me from, well, probably looking like the people I made fun of all nite. I loved that they had big screens behind the band and would show live shots of them close up. Rick Allen- the drummer- is amazing. He does a lot of his playing with his feet (since he lost his left arm in 1984 in a car accident.) No- not holding drumsticks in his toes, but with a specially designed eletronic drum set. It was awesome!! The girl sitting 3 rows in front of us who's jeans didn't cover her butt crack? Not awesome.

The overall concert was great. The only part that I was a little bummed about is that "Pour Some Sugar on Me" wasn't the encore. Their songs rock, but THAT is *their* song. Everyone knows that song. But this year their encore was "Rock of Ages"- which I love too, I just love "Sugar" more. But that's ok. I still love my Leppard! I laughed at the end of "Sugar" when 5-6 bras went flying onto stage- including a leopard print one that landed on the mic stand!! If I compared last year to this year... Hmmm... Def Leppard was just as rad. But I enjoyed Journey more than Styx and Foreigner. I had an awesome, awesome time and I have no voice to prove it! And I was in a seat this year- not on the lawn. That was nice. I was able to go to the bathroom and find my friends again without having to call them!!

I love Def Leppard. I cannot wait to see them again. I was sad it was over. But it was time to go home and be responsible and mature and... throw a 4 year old's birthday party. :) (I'll report on that next time. I also have pictures of me at the concert coming via email and will post them as soon as I get them.) Rock on!

I am very jealous. I wanted to go to Journey/Def Leppard last year and couldn't get away. This year didn't work out either.

My brother went and told me about the band stopping the song and starting over again because people didn't sing properly the first time--what a riot!

I hope I can go next year because I think it would just be a fun show.

Your two second video clip was perfect...made me laugh! My son and daughter in-law are going to the same concert next week when it comes here, YAY! I ♥ Styx the best.

"Mr. Roboto" destroyed Styx's credibility and led to their downfall. Be grateful they didn't perform that song. LOL

Azucar- Yeah, it was pretty funny. I'm happy to say I knew the words!

Lauren- YAY! Let me know what you think!!

Tricia- It really was awesome!

Sister- I never said I didn't like them. I just wasn't as familiar with them. I never had their music growing up.

Pj- Thanks!!

s--max- Again... never said I didn't like them. Just didn't grow up loving them.

Nancy- They'll love it! You could have stood with the huge Styx fans 2 ros behind me. The guy and girl were singing every word and LOVING it!!

Slimey Falls- But it's still fun.

Sheesh. Why do I feel like I'm having to defend myself!? I guess I could have been a poser and said "I've always loved STYX and Foreigner!" but I haven't. So sue me.

Sounds like you had a great time! Was that your leopard print bra that was flung on stage? ;)

Don't hate me because I'm a rock band nerd....I always thought Bon Jovi sang Pour some sugar on me. I get my rock bands mixed up. I think I have rocklexsia. :D

Def Leppard was freaking AWESOME. Hubby is a big Styx fan and we listened to his fav cd on the way up, but on the way home- It was Def Leppard all the way- and Saturday, while doing those responsible mommy things (like grocery shopping) it was Def Leppard. I did grow up loving Foreigner (head games an all) and Styx, but Def Leppard is among my favs of all time.

Glad you had fun and yay for you getting home early.

Did ya notice that at least half of the crowd was over 35? Yep, me too.

Rock on.

So, aren't you gonna miss your leopard print bra?

I'm not a concert kinda girl, but your excitement for this concert was almost tangible. Glad you had a good time!

Amanda- You and Sei can have rocklexia together... :)

Kayelyn- Yeah. I was one of the "young 'uns" at the concert!! I think Styx 1st big hit came out when I was, oh, 1 or 2?

Nobody- I won't miss it. I bought it especially for the concert. I was impressed with my aim and it landing on the mic though.

Sounds like you had a ball. I would have enjoyed Foreigner since "In my life, there's been heartache and pain". I do not know "Pour Some Sugar on Me", but that's because I'm a fuddy duddy.

I bet the party for Taj was great--looking forward to reading all about it.

You totally suck! I wonder how it would have been to throw my gargantuan maternity bra on stage.

Yvonne- It really was a great time and Foreigner did awesome!

NCS- I am diggin' your jello hat!

Heffalump- I'm glad I could be of service. :)

Glad you totally enjoyed yourself! I was surprised you didn't learn from last year to bring an extra bra. I am disappointed Tori.

I love the sugar song too! My dad always had Def Leppard playing, never owned Styx.

I went to see Chicago with special guest star The Little River Band last year.

Who's the bigger rockin mama now, huh? You should have seen me shaking my thang to Reminiscing and You're The Inspiration. Yeah, those are some serious party hardy songs. See how much I rock? I'm bringing back the old party hardy line.
