"Easy" Bake Oven my foot...

For Christmas last year all Isabel wanted was an Easy Bake Oven. I had one growing up and I hardly ever used it. I figured she'd be the same way, but how can you not get your kid the ONE thing on their list?! So, Santa brought her the oven and she used it- once. On Christmas Day. It's been sitting in her closet since then. On Saturday it was raining and cold, so she pulled out her oven and asked me to help her cook. An hour and a half later this is what we had created:
Seriously, it took that long to cook like 12 quarter size cupcakes and 2 little cakes that we stacked on top of each other. You can cook 4 cupcakes at a time for 12 minutes. And then one cake at a time for 12 minutes each. We had to wait til the pan cooled down so we could use it again for more cupcakes, etc... It was ridiculous. But ya know what? I loved every minute of it and Izzy had a great time. That's all that matters... Nevermind that we made a 9 x 13 cake from start to finish in less time than it took to make all the EZ bake stuff...

I never had an easy bake oven...I wonder if I could make my own by making a foil lined lamp shade that has a floor for my teeny pan to sit on? Do they still use a lightbulb as the heat source?

aw, she is a cutie and it looks like she had fun.

I haven't heard, "my foot" in such a long time that it made me laugh out loud when I read it.

I let my litle kids have domain over the EZ Bake while the big kids cook with the real oven. I found a bunch of online recipes to go with the EZ Bake too because who can freakin afford their special mixes??!!?

You know what? I don't remember the chef's name but he wrote an EZ Bake Gourmet Cookbook for the EZ bake anniversary a few years ago. Stuffed like scallopini and little tarts.

Aww, what a good Santa! I asked for an Easy Bake oven when I was little too. That was the year I found out there was no Santa so I asked my mom why no Easy Bake oven. My mom told me she wasn't going to buy me a mini oven that cooked with a light bulb when she could just teach me to use the real oven. lol

Santa's gotten so much nicer over the years... :o)

I never understood why my mom had me bake in her big oven until I bought one of those things for Kim. I later resorted to stuffing it in a box and teaching her how to use the "real" baking stuff.

You can make so much more and keep the family eating while you make more.

Yay for you being a cool mom. Chef Isabel and her assistant chef Tori:)

What fun! I never had one of those. I would rather bake real life stuff too where it takes less time. I was an impatient child.

My niece just had to have one. My sister told me that after they used it once she has never asked to use it again. This totally reminded me of that. At least you all got to spend ALOT of time together.

M got one of those for her birthday one year and we only used it like 3 times. We sold it at our garage sale right before we moved. What a mean mom am I?

I remember loving the Easy Bake Oven as a little girl...
I wonder if Scarlet will just get by with cars and trucks because that is about all we have around here.

How did they taste?

I had an easy bake oven. My mom got a roll of that pillbury dough and let me bake a cookie a day.

It kept me occupied and cut down on sweets consumption- who's gonna wait another hour just to have 2 cookies?

I loved how cute and tiny the cakes were

If they called it "Difficult Bake Oven," no one would buy it.

I'm experiencing dejavu! Kimberly wanted the exact same thing for christmas last year. We have used it one time. I remember thinking the same thing, what a waste of time, except for the fact that she loved it! You are a much more patient mom than me. We need to pull it out again. :)
