Who needs The Soap Network?

I worked at Pizza Hut for 2 years starting just a couple of months after I wrecked my sister's car and needed to pay my dad back my 16th birthday. I chose Pizza Hut because several of my good friends worked there. But they all ended up fired for being slackers. I was a good waitress though. I worked hard. I got "good" tips. (Good tip = anything at all!!) And I met some of the funnest people ever!! That's what amazed me. There were all these college people that I never would have talked to in my life that I became really close too. We'd hang out after-hours and play games. We went to each other's apartments. We told each other our secrets. We were spies for each other. There were so many of us dating another employee. Pizza Hut was like a freakin' soap opera.
Take Sharon and Brady... Brady dated Danae for a while, but then she quit and moved on to bigger and better men I guess. So, Brady hooked up with Sharon. But occasionally Danae would stop by to flirt with Brady- and he loved it. So, when she'd show up I would promptly call Sharon- who lived across the street- and Sharon would non-chalantly show up. Once Danae was actually lip syncing "Brady in red...." to Brady as "Lady in Red" played on the jukebox. I was sooooo bugged- for Sharon. Sharon showed up and Brady was fumbling all over himself trying to explain the drool dripping off his lip. Then Brady's little sister met the red-headed cook and Brady walked in on them, um, doing stuff you wouldn't want to catch your little sister doing. That was funny to hear about. Ah... good times.

Then there was Cheryl who looked like Mammy off of Gone with the Wind. She ended up getting knocked up. She wouldn't tell who the dad was until one nite it slipped. I so can't remember the guy's name- but he was a regular at the restaurant. Eew. On both parts. I saw her a few years later and was impressed that 2 ugly people could make such a beautiful kiddo!

Tracy and Marlena were both waitresses that fought over "Goose"- the guy who worked at Chief Auto Parts next door. He was using Marlena but she really liked him alot. It really hurt her a lot. Now Marlena is gay. Coincidence??

The best soap opera-y drama though happened between Donna and Shannon. It's actually really sad. Donna was a lifer. She'd been at Pizza Hut forever. She makes me think of Napoleon Dynamite's grandma. Anyway... Shannon was a nice lady. Shannon was married and had one child who had died. She and Donna became really close. Eventually Shannon and her husband moved from their nice apartment into the gross apartments where Donna lived. Donna was there when Shannon gave birth to her baby. Donna bragged about being the baby's aunt and how cute he was, etc... Then- Donna ran off with Shannon's husband. He totally left her and the baby. Donna was so nasty. She had 5 kids and had lost them all to the state. She was gross. And this man left his wife for her. Eew. When the other employees heard about this we were all like "WHaaa???" It was really sad.
So yeah... Pizza Hut was fun. There was always drama. Always laughing. And I still have a jacked up elbow from falling- really hard- on melted ice. That is all.

wooh, I'm the first to comment!

I love reading all of your stories! I definitely hated the movie Gone with the Wind-probably because they forced it on us in 9th grade. We were all locked in the auditorium for 5 hours to watch it.

Poor Shannon, I feel so bad for her!

I too love your stories.
And I too worked at Pizza Hut. I hadn't really thought about it, but it WAS like a soap opera. We had our own "Mammy" there. Only, she was a manager. And gay. The only time I've been totally shocked when I found that out about someone. I mean, really---does Mammy set off ANYONE'S gaydar? I don't think so.

Wonder what it is about Pizza Hut that cultivates such an environment. We had the exact same scenario as Brady/Shannon/ and Danae, but I am SURE neither of the girls at my Pizza Hut were clever enough to think of "Brady in Red." That's just sheer genius.

I LOVE PIZZA HUT--My husband and I had our first date at a Pizza Hut. Poor Shannon--that is so sad.

I think your "good tips = anything at all" says so much about your positive attitude!!! I love it.

I just knew those kind of things were going on at Pizza Hut!!!

I can see from your sidebar that you are loving Jacob more and more. Just a little.

Wow, I am not sure I can stomach Pizza Hut after that. On second thought, give me a few days to forget and I'll order some on Friday.

I worked at an aerospace technology place that had some of this same kind of stuff going on. Cured me from watching soap opera's while folding laundry.

Glad you are normal.

Who knew there would be such drama behind that Pizza Hut logo? lol

Oh, there is nothing like workplace drama. I guess that is why I like working with my husband. The only drama we have is deciding whos turn it is to decide what we are having for lunch!

I worked at The Black Eyed-Pea for a few years while going to school. There was never a dull moment. Drama around every corner. And that was just the "regulars." Don't even get me started on the employees. Ever see the movie "Waiting?" That was how I spent three long years of my life.

I am laughing so hard at "Brady in red".... I actually had a guy try to use that song as a pick up line on me at a dance once. SO LAME.

Isn't it strange how drama can be anywhere...be it General Hospital or Pizza Hut.

Having that job sounds like quite an experience!

It's funny how much drama goes on in the workplace, but I guess that makes sense when you have so many teenagers there!

How funny that the kid was still cute. I guess the cute genes must have been recessive in those people! LOL!

I'm a big fan of meeting someone at work, since that is where I met hubby! :)
