Close call

"I'm free! I'm free!!... Dang it."
The old heretic on Hunchback of Notre Dame

Yesterday Isabel was holding our beloved pet snake, Wormy. Wormy has gotten a lot bigger than she was when we got her over a year ago. She's graduated to bigger "fuzzy" mice and is a lot stronger than she used to be. She can almost reach the top of the cage just by "standing up." (KInda like a cobra coming out of one of those baskets for a snake charmer.) Well, yesterday Izzy put her back in her cage and didn't put the lid on. I came up stairs probably an hour later and saw the missing top. I called for Izzy, but she was in the shower so there was no way she had Wormy with her. My heart dropped. I knew there was a snake loose in the house, but that wasn't what worried me. I was positive Wormy would die. She's fast and sneaky and we'd probably never find her, so she'd die. She doesn't know how to hunt and we don't have mice running around our house anyway. I was so worried. We started a manhunt, er... snake hunt. I kept picturing her in Livie's crib- with Liv just throwing her around. (Livie hasn't learned to be gentle with Wormy yet.)
Well, luckily after about 10 minutes of searching I saw Wormy peek her head out from behind her feeding box. Her cage was on the top shelf of the desk and her feeding box was just one shelf down. I think she got out and thought "I'm free! I'm free!!" and then realized it was a long way down. I was/am so relieved!!! Oh- and when I asked Izzy why she didn't put the lid on she said, "I couldn't find it." Um, ok!?

If a snake got loose in my house, I would have to move.

So you already know that you are amazing for just allowing the reptile in your home. I'm moving with JustRandi if a snake gets loose in my house.

So glad you found her though. You would have had some sad kiddos if anything permanent would have happened to her.

So glad you found Wormy... I'm glad Wormy is a good Wormy and not a scary Wormy.

I'm so afraid that one day Zoe will want a reptile of some sort... especially after our recent visit to a Florida zoo where she LOVED holding a baby alligator and petting a snake.

I passed a badge your way!
