Because "I'm paying for this!!"

First, let me start off by thanking Klin and Yvonne for the GREAT mail I received in the past week or 2. Nice cards, candy and Webkinz trading cards!! Thank you! It really helped pull me out of the sad and grumpies down in the dumpies.
-----------------------------

Last nite Tristan had a football game. They got their butts kicked, but he played well. He had 3 tackles and they announced his name over the intercom "Brought down by #1, Tristan G____." Awww yeah! That's my boy!!
Now, I grew up playing sports so I understand how there's a time to be serious and if you wanna be good then you have to work hard, etc... And I'm not one of those parents that tell their kid "You were the best one out there!" if they totally sucked it up. I might tell them they were the cutest- but never the best unless it's true. And if I see something they can improve on, I tell them that too. Like Tristan's last game I said, "You were sooooo close to gettin' that guy. If you dove you probably would have had him." So, this game he dove!! Then he looked up at me and pointed to me like "That one was for you Mom." Ok- not. He did dive, but he didn't point to me- his rad coach. :P Anyway... I also think kids should get out when they play t-ball and I think kids should get cut from teams and I don't think every chick that wants to be a cheerleader should automatically be one. (Please do not get me started on the crap cheerleaders at Tristan's school. Soooooo bad. I'm thinking I could make the squad, right now, at my age with my legs and my no air. But whatev.) I do have a point and I'm getting to it...
Last nite we sat by *the* most obnoxious parents. Maybe not *the* most, but pretty darn close. "Go Skyler!!" "Come on Skyler!" "Hit someone Skyler!!" "Nice one Skyler!" "Do something Skyler! I'm paying for this!!" Yes- the dad seriously yelled "I'm paying for this." And they weren't saying it like they were encouraging him. They sounded more annoyed and threatening. & they weren't even sitting in the right section. They were for the other team. I was soooooo annoyed because 1) Skyler wasn't the only one on the team but they acted like he was the only one who could do anything. 2) All I could think was "Poor Skyler." The kid obviously has a ton of pressure put on him to be the big football star. He got hit and was hurt- all the coaches and players are taking a knee and waiting to see if he's ok and all his dad could think to yell was, "GET UP SKYLER!!" So I yelled, "Yeah- because your dad is paying for this!" I don't think Sei will sit by me the next game...
Don't get me wrong- I get the whole cheering for your kids thing. I cheer for Tristan all the time, but more like when he does something good or when he's running on or off the field. "Way to go T!!" "Good job Tristan!" "Get Skyler Tdog!" Kidding... I just thought it was really sad. And what's even sadder, I think I only heard Skyler's name on the loud speaker once. Take that obnoxious dad- my son had more take downs than your son. Boo-ya.

FIRST!!

"Skylar pop your knee back in and get up!" Gosh, poor kid! I can't stand when parents act like that.

One time my mom was at my brother's baseball game and she told off one of "those" mothers. They almost got in a rumble. That would have been awesome to see.

This is why I only go to my kids' soccer games if I like the other parents.

Seriously. My husband is the coach so I figure my child has representation. The games are hard enough to watch without dipwad parents shouting in my ear.

Skyler's dad should think about that - the other parents paid, too, to watch their kids play - not to listen to him screaming at his son.

I'm admittedly nervous about what kind of parent I will turn into at sporting events (if my kids play sports, which they will if they want any inheritance from me!).

OH, that would have put the dad in his place wouldn't it? (If you'd yelled, "Yeah, Skyler, because your dad's paying for this!"

I always wonder how dumb other parents think I am when I yell for my kid. At least I hope I'm not yelling stuff THAT dumb.

(C'mon Lizzie, get up and play that sax! We just lost $75K in the stock market, and you're all we have to pin our hopes on! You go girl!)

but no pressure~!

So we all want the details on what the dad's face (and others)was like when you said it...Awesome!

Wow. Poor Skyler. Maybe he got injured enough to not have to play! I have to wonder how bad he wants to play now with a Dad like that.
I was a bench sitter in Basketball, so my parents didn't even come. They didn't want to spend money on the game if I wasn't going to play for sure, and since I couldn't guarantee that, they just didn't come.

I don't know if the dad heard me. He was 4 rows up, but I said it pretty loudly. If he heard me he didn't say anything back. Bummer.

I get worried about stuff like that. I'm sure if the dad keeps that up Skylar isn't going to want to play anymore. Takes the fun out of the game. Too bad it happens so often.

That is SO annoying! I think I was sitting next to that guy's twin at Ryan's baseball game last night. His son was catching & he would not shut up. "YOU GOTTA GET THOSE JOSH!" "MAKE GOOD THROWS JOSH!" "GET UP JOSH!" OMGosh! I wanted to slap him! Then when Josh would do something good, nothing. UGGHHH! Some parents are so retarded!

I totally want to go to football games with you.

Last one I went to a parent actually told the ref to take his "head out of his a**" Not that I didn't agree, but there were children and ladies present, for crying out loud.

Glad you got your good mail.

Love it!

It sneaks up on you. I would get so aggitated watching my boys play soccer. I went hoarse after their first game. I decided right then and there that I should bring a magazine to their games to distract me.

YAY for rad kids! BOOOOO for parents who are rude and still behave like armchair QBs to their own kidlets!

News flash it's not Howard Cosell out there "This washed-up, aged, ex-champion....Now a study in mop-ish-ness."(I heart that movie :D)

Sounds like he was sitting on your team's side because he's worn out his welcome on his team's side. We have a parent like that on our team and it irks me. They are kids for goodness sakes!

When my oldest played Little League I was always the scorekeeper and sat in the booth so I didn't have to listen to the other parents. They were pretty bad.
