I regret to inform you that...

Tori:) will not be posting today.
She is too busy trying to embrace what is right-
because she is white.
NCS I sure hope you can stick around.

(Yes- I went there.)

I keep typing a comment and then deleting it.

I don't know what to say.

What the devil are you talking about?

Is this another inside joke?

Tori :) said...

It was the last part of the inaugural benediction yesterday:

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around ... when yellow will be mellow ... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen."

I woke up this morning to an unreality. I know exactly what you are feeling. It's like I'm trapped in a nightmare of ridiculous comments and stories and I really don't know what is happening. Worst of all is that people are acting like idiot and rude behavior is normal.

I was actually debating if I should link to all the stupidity because I know I am not the only one giving herself forehead slaps. And I am not even talking about one theme here, I am talking about all kinds of insanity.

Sorry about my link yesterday Twin. I will warn you next time.

BTW, you are one cool white chick ;)

Wasn't sure what to think about either of those "prayers"

Coilet.
That's all I have to say about that.

I am brown and I stick around.

Wow, very classy.

Oh mercy.
Lauren is dead over here.

Man, I'm so glad I didn't watch this idiocy yesterday. That is absolutely embarrassing.

Reverse racism at its finest.

Heffalump said...

Wow...look at everything I was missing out on by not watching yesterday!
I never knew elementary level poetry had such a special place in the world!
Maybe next time they will use a haiku!
I am not even going to touch the race thing...you already said it all.

Jenny said...

I didn't care for that much either.

You crack me up.

Wait, you're white?

I'm not sure why any official praying was required at the inauguration. Or Yo Yo Ma. Not sure why he was there either.

does one have to practice this embracing? S

swampbaby said...

We were laughing our head off at that "prayer."

Yvonne said...

That was a pretty interesting "prayer" wasn't it????

CoconutKate said...

Its no wonder they want to bannish praying everywhere public. After yesterday, I'm about to jump on that bandwagon.

Klin said...

I want to point out that the news reported that there was not even ONE arrest made yesterday. That is history, I tell ya.

Not really. There were no arrests because the stupid people got what they wanted and weren't protesting our WHITE president who did what was RIGHT.

Obama has some proving to do in my book. I give no one the benefit of the doubt based on color, or lack there of, as us white folk are sometimes referred as.

Of my soap box now to return to doing what is right and hope that others, colored or not, follow.

Love you and I'm glad you went there.

Klin said...

I just read this on my cousin's face book. Still laughing.

"J_______ thinks that Obama has done one good thing...helped us watch less TV by being on every channel and we are SOOOO sick of him!"

RatalieNose said...

That prayer was one of my favorite things about the inaguration!!! I like your background.

No Cool Story said...

"I am brown and got no frown!"

swampbaby said...

On a totally different note - why hasn't there been mass uproar at the $150 million spent on this inauguration when the $41 or whatever million that was spent on Bush's caught everyone's wrath? I'm just sayin'. I like NCS's way of putting it - Obamagasms everywhere.

No Cool Story said...

I am brown and I wear a gown and a crown.

Man, I could do this all day

Karina said...

I'm hispanic but not brown, what group do I fall in? I think i've been discriminated against. Maybe I should call Jesse Jackson.

Stacey said...

I agree with swampbaby. With the financial problems we are having right now why are they spending so much freaking money?? I get so sick of that when so many people (myself included) are struggling to make ends meet.

I'm white...I'm right...I'm gonna go fly a kite.

omar said...

In defense of the money spending, they were expecting a crowd of more than 4 times the size of the crowd for Bush's inauguration. So when you factor in transportation and security for so many people, it's gonna be expensive.

Plus, more than $45 million of that was raised by donations from private citizens. And none of the money came from lobbyists.

I'm black, but not tall like Shaq.

Tori :) said...

You're not tall like Shaq, but please tell me you can you shoot, Omar! :)

I did read a lot of the $$ was spent on security. But it's still A LOT of money... Makes me feel more poor. :(

I'm white, with sight, and I might drink a Sprite.

I'm so white and in the sunlight it's a fright!

Obama Lover said...

"You're not tall like Shaq, but please tell me you can you shoot..." This is the most racist comment i have ever heard. What, because someone is black they should no how to shoot? Shoot what... a gun or did you mean a basketball. I'm totally confused.

omar said...

Don't fret, Tori. I did not consider your comment to be at all racist. I'm the one who challenged you to a game of horse, after all.

And I can shoot. I can shoot like my name was Pistol Pete! Oh wait... he was white. Like Larry Bi-- wait, same thing. Mark Price? No. Like Reggie Miller? No, I grew up a Knicks fan. Ray Allen? Yeah, I shoot like my name was Ray Allen!

Obama Lover said...

I can't believe you don't think that was a racist comment. I shoot like my name is Ray Allen's bodyguard.

Tori :) said...

I'm thinkin' "Obama Lover" could also be called "Kobe Lover" and is off work today... I apologize.

omar said...

Obama Lover can get in on the game of horse also. And if you could wear your Dirk jersey and he his Kobe jersey, that would make my victory that much sweeter.

I'll holler next time I visit your area in Texas (note that I've never been to Texas in my entire life - but if I do go, I'll holler).

I'm black, and ready for my morning snack.

I'm half-Portuguese. Excuse me while I sneeze.

I commented on NCS's about the scripted benediction. And how odd it was. Honestly, though, I tuned out after 45 seconds. Now I'm bummed that I missed out on the racial rhyming.

Tori :) said...

I'm white and my shot is tight. You're black, he's brown and I'll run y'all 'round... the court.

Nobo said...

I want more NCS rhymes. And more Obama Lover picking on you. And I'd pay a dollar to hear Omar "holler".

I went ahead and posted on account of, I'm choosing to be yellow this week. Well, actually, "yella". So I can be mella. YouknowwhatI'msayingman?

I love Tori and her noble posts.

No Cool Story said...

How come I always miss all the fun?
I vote for what Nobo said. Specially the part where wants more rhymes.

Tori, you and I were on the same page. I just mentioned this in my blog, too. Obama's got such great and intelligent friends. So talented and so appropriate. . . Not.

Rare serious comment alert from a guy who actually likes Obama:

Many consider Reverend Lowery to be a civil rights era icon. There's a street in Atlanta named in his honor. He's not just some guy they invited because he's Obama's friend. (I have no idea if they even are friends.)

And the words from his speech were loosely derived from a song from the 50's. I won't link to it for Tori's sake, but google search "black brown white lyrics" to see.

That said, I'm still not sure why a benediction is necessary at a presidential inauguration. And I'm not sure why Reverend Lowery chose to get his inspiration from a 50's blues song.

Tori :) said...

I did know it was based on that song. I read quite a bit about it in the last couple of days. I just thought it was a weird note to end a "prayer" on considering when most people pray they are speaking to God and it seemed awfully irreverant/silly/Dr. Seuss-ish in my opinion...
And I know some white people don't feel like it was a slam to white people, but I kind of did considering the event he was giving the benediction at. But you know, it's all good or whateva.

Physcokity said...

Tori are for serious? I dunno, but I saw some other things though that kinda T'ed me off earlier today about what the Pres. signed to "repeal" some stuff, that while generally speaking isn't humane, is sometimes necessary... If that's how this whole thing is kicking off...I'm definitely going to be praying VERY hard for certain people.

Shelby Lou said...

wow i love how are president went that far. not even that you went that far, but that HE did. RIDICULOUS. i didn't watch any of it, but it sounds more like story time then a speech.
