The kids have been coming home the last couple of weeks with more permission slips for me to sign than they've had all year. It's the end of the school year and apparently FIELD TRIP time!!! I already went to the zoo with Taj's kindergarten class and to an amusement park with Isabel's choir. They were both a lot of fun. Taj loved feeding the giraffe and getting to measure his "wingspan" against that of an eagle. What a great learning experience!! The only thing about field trips is that with every permission slip comes an amount of money they need to parents to send to cover it. School districts just don't have the cash and unfortunately neither do a lot of parents. Isabel's trip cost me $20!!! :( Did you know that according to a 2009 report from The American Association of School Administrators, it’s estimated that over the course of the current school year, the number of school districts eliminating field trips will increase by 56 percent. That would be over 30,000 schools. THIRTY thousand.
That is horrible news! I am a huge believer in hands-on learning. I also believe you can learn more by experiencing than reading about it. I can tell my kids about orcas, for example (Forgive me, Taj is in love with whales at the moment.) but how much cooler would it be to take him to Sea World to learn about whales face to face!!?? Lack of funding could end awesome field trip experiences around the country. That’s why Lunchables Lunch Combinations wants to help deserving kids across the country go on an inspiring, educational experience with the launch of the program, “Field Trips For All.”
“Field Trips For All” is the first effort from the Lunchables Team’s new initiative called Project Potential. Aimed at empowering kids with opportunities to help them reach their full potential, Project Potential will provide enriching experiences kids might otherwise not have.
This awesome new program allows YOU to nominate classrooms you believe are deserving of this awesome help!! As long as you're older than 6 years old- haha- you can go to http://www.lunchables.com/potential/ and submit a nomination. From all nominations received, 50 classrooms will be selected to go on an awesome, educational experience like this one:
Do you have a classroom in mind? I know I am doing my homework to find the perfect nomination!
